The Information Gap in Market Selection

Choosing what to trade should be an informed decision, not a blind one. Yet most trading interfaces treat the market selector as little more than a dropdown list — a name, maybe a price, and that is it. You pick a market, switch to it, and only then discover the data that should have informed your choice in the first place. Open interest is collapsing. Volume has dried up. The funding rate is deeply negative. Information you needed before committing, not after.

HyperX has shipped two connected upgrades that address this problem: an enhanced market selector packed with the data columns traders actually need, and a live price footer ticker that keeps market-wide data visible at all times. Both features share the same underlying data layer, ensuring consistency and efficiency across the interface.

The Enhanced Market Selector

The market selector is no longer just a navigation tool. It is now a compact market screening surface that gives you the data to make informed decisions before switching to a new trading pair.

Rich Data Columns

Every market entry in the selector now displays five key data points alongside the market name:

Price — The current mark price, updated in real time. This is the baseline.

24-Hour Change — The percentage price change over the past 24 hours, color-coded green for positive and red for negative moves. At a glance, you can scan which markets are moving and in which direction without clicking into dozens of individual charts.

Open Interest — The total open interest for each perpetual market. Rising OI alongside price movement suggests genuine conviction. Falling OI during a move warns of a potential reversal. Having this visible in the selector means you can filter for markets with meaningful participation before opening a chart.

Volume — The 24-hour trading volume. Confirms that a market is liquid enough for your position size and that price action is backed by real activity rather than thin order books getting pushed around.

Funding Rate — The current funding rate for perpetual markets. Extreme positive funding means longs are paying a premium, suggesting crowded positioning. Negative funding means shorts are paying. Scanning funding rates across all markets turns the selector into a funding arbitrage screening tool.

These columns transform the market selector from a simple navigation menu into a lightweight market scanner. Instead of maintaining a separate spreadsheet or third-party tool to compare metrics, the data is embedded directly where you make your market selection.

Favorites That Work Across Categories

The favorites system has been reworked to behave the way traders actually need it to. When you switch to the favorites tab, it shows every market you have favorited regardless of which category filter is currently active. Previously, favoriting a market and then switching categories could hide it from view. That friction is gone.

Stars are color-coded using the primary theme color, making them visually distinct. The state persists across sessions, so your core watchlist of BTC, ETH, SOL perps alongside HYPE and PURR spot is always one click away.

Unified Spot and Perp with Click-to-Switch

The selector presents both spot and perpetual markets in a single unified interface. Browse perp contracts, switch to spot, or view everything together. The same search bar filters across both market types in real time.

Every entry is clickable. Tap any row and the entire trading terminal — chart, order book, order entry, and position context — switches to that market instantly. See an interesting funding rate, confirm the volume and OI, and click to switch. Three seconds from discovery to execution context.

The Price Footer Ticker

The second half of this update lives at the bottom of the screen. The price footer ticker is a persistent, always-visible strip that displays live market data. It runs along the bottom of the interface, providing ambient awareness of market conditions without requiring you to open any panel or navigate away from what you are doing.

What the Ticker Shows

Each entry in the footer ticker displays the market name, current price with real-time updates, and supplementary data including open interest, 24-hour volume, and funding rate. The ticker is not a scrolling news feed — it is a structured data display showing the markets most relevant to you. When prices move, the values update in place. When funding rates shift, you see it immediately. You are never completely blind to broader market conditions, even when deep in a single position.

Shared Data Layer

The footer ticker and the market selector are not independent systems fetching separate data. Both are powered by the same shared data layer — the useMarketTableData hook — which means they are always in sync. When the selector shows a price, the ticker shows the same price. One data subscription serves both features rather than doubling network and computation overhead. No duplicated WebSocket connections, no inconsistency.

Click-to-Navigate from the Ticker

Like the market selector, every entry in the footer ticker is clickable. See a price movement that catches your attention? Click it and the terminal switches to that market instantly. The ticker serves as a persistent, ambient shortcut to any market it displays.

Why Ambient Market Data Matters

Professional trading is as much about peripheral awareness as it is about focused analysis. The enhanced market selector and price footer ticker work together to build that awareness into the interface. The selector gives you depth when you are actively choosing what to trade. The ticker gives you breadth while you are focused on a current position. Together, they close the information gap that previously required switching between multiple tools or mentally tracking data that was not visible on screen.

Available Now

Both features are live on HyperX. The data columns are populated for all perpetual markets, with price and change data available for spot markets as well. Key features in this update:

  • Favorites tab showing all favorited markets regardless of active category filter
  • Color-coded favorite stars using primary theme color
  • Live price footer ticker with OI, volume, and funding data
  • Shared data layer ensuring consistency between ticker and selector
  • Click-to-switch navigation from both the selector and the footer ticker
  • Unified spot and perpetual market browsing with real-time search

No configuration needed. Open HyperX, and the enhanced selector and footer ticker are already active.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the footer ticker show all markets? The ticker prioritizes your favorited and recently viewed markets, keeping it relevant to your trading context rather than overwhelming it with every listed market.

Are the data columns available for spot markets too? Price and 24-hour change are available for both spot and perpetual markets. Open interest, volume, and funding rate are specific to perpetual contracts.

Does this increase resource usage? No. The shared data layer means both features consume the same single data subscription. Resource usage is comparable to the previous version.

Does the ticker work on mobile? Yes. The footer ticker adapts to smaller screens with condensed but readable market data. The market selector columns are accessible on mobile through horizontal scrolling.
